Outline Browser Notes

The outline browser interface shows schema and data together. The outline may be expanded or collapsed for subordinate items.

The following items may be customized:

  1. (Nested) clusters of initial (base) classes.
  2. More verbose, user friendly names for base classes.
  3. Class instance format specification using attributes (preferably REPS) of a class. By default, if no reps are found, the _oid in the form of _oid = oidVal is used. If one rep is found, then the rep value is used. If more than one rep is found, then the output format takes the form of rep1 = val1, rep2 = val2, ... Other attributes besides REPs may be used for class instance representation.

Customization is specified in the view file:

Sample view file for UTS (University Test Sybase) database.

If clusters are not manually specified, the tool oqtclusters can be used to generate a default set classes and clusters (which may later be customized). In most situations, one might prefer not to overwhelm the user with all the classes in an OPM database, but merely present an entree of the most familiar classes, or groups of classes (clusters), at start up.
